Fillings
Say ‘goodbye’ to metal fillings and ‘hello’ to the white alternative
Here at New Road Dental, we’re proud to be a private, local dentist for fillings. It means that we can give you the best quality treatment available.
Fillings are typically made from a mixture of mercury and other metals called amalgam. In the majority of cases they offer a hard-wearing solution to cavities (holes caused by decay) but many are put off by their silver-grey appearance.
Today, thanks to advancements in dentistry, fillings are made from a number of different materials – you can even get more aesthetically pleasing white fillings. These fillings are made from composite and can be used to discreetly treat breaks, cracks and holes in the teeth. You can even have your existing amalgam filling replaced with a composite alternative.
Fillings can be used for a number of reasons, including:
- To prevent tooth decay (cavities) from spreading and causing tooth rot
- Filling broken and cracked teeth
- To prevent pain caused by tooth rot
- To rebuild teeth that have been worn down
- To save patients from having to have root canal treatment if decay spreads to the root of the tooth
The purpose of a filling is essentially to fill gaps in the teeth, enabling them to maintain their full function. If a part of your tooth has started to decay, it will need to be removed (to prevent further damage) and re-built. Additionally, if you have an old filling that you suspect could be leaking, this could require root canal treatment, so make sure to come and see us with your concerns.
Quick fillings are not just able to provide a solution to tooth decay; they can also be used for cosmetic purposes, such as re-building the front of the teeth for patients who have receding gums.
If you should suddenly have severe tooth pain and require an emergency filling, our experienced dentists will help you as soon as possible. Similarly, if you require a replacement filling urgently, we are more than happy to help.
