Root Canal Treatment
Performed correctly, root canal treatment should be no more uncomfortable than having a filling
Wwhen it comes to root canal treatment, the procedure has a bad reputation for being extremely painful. However, this is not necessarily the case. When carried out correctly by our skilled dentists, the treatment should be no more uncomfortable than having a filling.
A root canal treatment is when an infected root canal – where the nerve of the tooth meets the jaw line – need to be flushed out, cleaning away any bacteria. The procedure is required when tooth decay is left to develop, allowing bacteria to travel down the root into the gums. This can cause a painful abscess, inflammation and extreme discomfort. Sometimes, this can occur from a badly fitted filling, so if you have any concerns, it’s important to come and see us directly.
It is important to remember however, that the initial signs of tooth decay don’t necessarily cause pain. Annual visits to the dentist are therefore highly recommended.
At New Road Dental, our team of friendly root canal dentists each have a wealth of experience conducting this procedure, including molar root canal treatment. They will always do everything they can to save as much of your tooth as possible – without the root. However, if the affected tooth nerve is particularly infected, you have received a root canal treatment in the past or already have a crown on the affected tooth, you may require an artificial tooth once the treatment has been performed.
Additionally, if you ever require an emergency root canal, we will do all we can do make sure that the procedure is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
In the majority of cases root canal treatment is conducted under a local anaesthetic. If you are particularly anxious about the procedure, please don’t hesitate to discuss your concerns with your dentist, as general anaesthetic may be more appropriate.
